Contemporary Issues in Science, Engineering and Social Sciences

About The Conference

Dr. N.G.P. Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, is proud to host a two-day international conference bringing together interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of Science, Engineering, and Social Sciences. The conference examines how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are reshaping approaches to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event provides a platform for rigorous, application-oriented, and critically reflective presentations that demonstrate how intelligent technologies can address pressing global challenges 0 from climate change and public health to governance and social equity. Academicians, researchers, doctoral scholars, and industry practitioners are invited to share theoretical, empirical, and applied work in sustainability contexts.

  • On-Campus with Virtual Participation Option
  • Selected papers will be considered for publication in an edited volume
  • Advancing SDGs through AI & ML
  • Scopus-indexed conference proceedings

Conference Objectives

The conference aims to build a rigorous, interdisciplinary platform where researchers, doctoral scholars, and industry practitioners can examine how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning can accelerate progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, the conference seeks to:

  • Showcase original, application-oriented research that applies AI and ML to pressing sustainability challenges in science, engineering, and the social sciences.
  • Foster interdisciplinary dialogue among technologists, scientists, and social scientists on the opportunities and risks of intelligent technologies.
  • Provide doctoral scholars and early-career researchers a peer-reviewed forum for feedback, mentorship, and publication.
  • Translate promising research into policy-relevant and industry-relevant recommendations for equitable, sustainable development.
Conference Tracks
Four Parts – Twenty Sub-Themes

The technical programme is organised into four thematic tracks spanning twenty sub-themes, outlined below.

Part I — AI & ML for Environmental and Earth Sciences

Aligned with SDG 2, 6, 7, 13, 14, 15

This track explores how artificial intelligence and machine learning are transforming the understanding and management of natural systems — predictive modeling for climate and disaster risk, data-driven approaches to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation, intelligent optimization of renewable energy systems, and AI-enabled solutions for water and food security. Authors are encouraged to present empirical studies, case analyses, and methodological innovations connecting computational advances with measurable environmental outcomes.

  • AI-Driven Climate Modeling and Disaster Risk Prediction
  • ML for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Monitoring
  • AI in Renewable Energy Optimization and Smart Grids
  • Predictive Analytics for Water Resource Management
  • AI-Enabled Precision Agriculture and Food Security
Part II — AI & ML in Engineering and Technological Innovation

Aligned with SDG 9, 11, 12

This track addresses the role of intelligent systems in reshaping infrastructure, manufacturing, and mobility toward sustainability — smart city design, industrial automation, circular economy practices, green manufacturing enabled by robotics and machine learning, and AI-driven approaches to waste management and clean transportation. Technically grounded submissions demonstrating how engineering innovation can advance sustainability outcomes are welcomed.

  • ML in Sustainable Infrastructure and Smart Cities
  • AI for Industrial Automation and Circular Economy
  • Robotics and AI in Green Manufacturing
  • AI-Powered Waste Management and Recycling Systems
  • ML Applications in Transportation and Clean Mobility
Part III — AI & ML in Health and Well-being

Aligned with SDG 3

This track brings together research on applying AI and ML to improve health outcomes and well-being at individual and population levels — diagnostic and predictive modeling for disease detection, computational approaches to mental health assessment, and AI-based systems for public health surveillance and epidemic forecasting. Submissions should highlight the practical, ethical, and policy dimensions of deploying AI in healthcare contexts.

  • AI in Healthcare Diagnostics and Disease Prediction
  • ML for Mental Health Assessment and Intervention
  • AI-Driven Public Health Surveillance and Epidemic Forecasting
Part IV — AI & ML in Social Sciences, Governance & Equity

Aligned with SDG 1, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, 17

This track examines the societal, ethical, and policy dimensions of AI and ML adoption — inclusive education technologies, responsible and fair AI governance, gender equality in digital transformation, poverty alleviation through social welfare analytics, financial inclusion, evidence-based policy making, and the changing nature of work. Submissions that critically engage with the opportunities and risks AI poses for equitable and inclusive development are especially invited.

  • AI/ML in Education for Inclusive Learning
  • Ethical and Responsible AI: Bias, Fairness, and Governance
  • AI for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment
  • ML in Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare Analytics
  • AI-Enabled Financial Inclusion and Digital Economy
  • Data-Driven Policy Making and Smart Governance using AI
  • AI/ML in Labour Markets: Future of Work & Skill Development

Prospective authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research aligned with any of the four conference tracks. All submitted abstracts and full papers will undergo double-blind peer review by members of the editorial and advisory board. Authors may be asked to revise and resubmit prior to final acceptance.
